The term Blog is a portmanteau, a blend of the words Web and Log. To blog or blogging is also used as a verb meaning to create, maintain or add content to a blog. In May 2007, blog search engine Technorati was tracking over 71 million blogs.
Entries are created and displayed in a reverse chronological order on a blog so that the most recent entries can be read 1st. Blogs cover a wide array of topics and purposes. Some blogs are simply personal online diaries. Some blogs provide commentary or news on general and specific subjects, often politics or local and/or national events. The average blog is primarily a text blog, but some focus on photographs, videos, music or other audio, as well as links to other blogs, web pages, and other related media. Some blogs allow their readers to leave comments.
