› Blogs versus Mainstream Media
Some bloggers take pains to distinguish themselves from the “mainstream” or “corporate” media. Some bloggers actually are members of said media establishment using the new medium of blogs and the progressive blogosphere influence. Both the worst and the best blog blogosphere writers see blogging as a way to get their messages directly to the public.
The first official news weblog belonged to Jonathan Dube of The Charlotte Observer, who covered Hurricane Bonnie on a news site was in August 1998. According to CyberJournalist.net's J-blog list well over 300 “mainstream” journalists keep an official media blog as well as maintaining their own blogs.
Critics of blogs point out that bloggers have no respect for copyright laws and subvert the traditional role of the mass media in presenting credible news. Bloggers often point out that media consolidation undermines the claims of major news agencies that they are more disposed to credible reporting.
